Engine off -> neutral -> Push until far enough away -> piss off neighbors instead

Put them up for adoption. The money you save can fund further mods.

Make them wear earplugs to bed.

Simple. Move next to a neighbor with a 3/4 ton diesel brotruck.
Guarantee that thing will be louder than most cat backs you can put on a V8.

I'm sorry but isn't that animal abuse? Won't the cat be injured when it comes into contact with the moving parts in the engine bay?

There are mufflers that stay well behaved at lower RPM's. I'm not sure of any particular products, but I think some are made where they actually open up if there is enough pressure.
Another way to achieve that is to get cutouts.

Set up a cut out system. When it's closed then the exhaust routes through a typical cat and muffler system. When it's open it dumps into straight pipes. Best of both worlds.

Magnaflows. Nice understated rumble at idle/low throttle, good sound when you want it. Not Delta-40 sound. Good sound.

I have the same hesitation, but more worried about pissing off the neighbors. My kids are usually up when I leave (around 7:00).
There's a good OEM exhaust mod that I could do on mine, but I want to get test pipes and a tune first and see how much that changes the noise first.
